Abstract

The movement of social norm from traditional conservative becomes permissive inclines the adolescent more motivated to do premarital sex. Busy parents and nothing guidance when faced a crisis period increase the possibility to do premarital sex. Some researches show us that the involving of parents in giving sex information to the adolescent is limited. The objective of this paper was to find out whether there was any relationship between caring levels of parents in guiding children with adolescent sexual behavior. This study used analytic observational design and cross sectional retrieval technique. Samples consisted of 219 students in Senior High Schools 1 Pemalang and 210 students in Senior High School PGRI 1 Taman from the population of the tenth and eleventh year with simple random sampling technique. Instrument used in this research was questionnaires consisted of 30 questions about caring levels of parents and 14 questions about sexual behavior. Data was analyzed with Spearman rank correlation. The result showed the caring level of parents on Senior High School 1 Pemalang was high (59.08%) and adolescent sexual behavior was on 2nd level (58%). In Senior High School PGRI 1 Taman, the caring level of parents was medium (42.38%) and adolescent sexual behavior was on 2nd level (63.81%). The caring levels of parents in guiding children did not show any significant direct relationship with adolescent sexual behavior in the Senior High School 1 Pemalang and Senior High School PGRI 1 Taman. From those results, it is suggested to parents to more increase their parenting and caring of their children, especially in sexual development.
