Abstract

Perineum rupture occured when baby born spontaneously or by intervention. Perineum rupture occured on almost all primiparous. To prevent perineum rupture incidence, antenatal perineum massage can be performed to increse perineum elasticity. Problem of research was high primiparous women who experienced perineum rupture (89%) in Maternity Clinic of Karya Bhakti Pekanbaru. Title of the research is the effect of antenatal perineum massage on perineum rupture incidence in primiparous, with the aimed to indentify effect of antenatal perineum massage on perineum rupture incidence in primiparous in Maternity Clinic of Karya Bhakti Pekanbaru. Type of research was pre experimental with static group comparison design. Research population was primigravid women at 36 weeks of gestational age who examined their pregnancy in Maternity Clinic of Karya Bhakti Pekanbaru at September-October 2010 of 33 women. Sample collection was by purposive sampling. Sample size was 30 women distributed in intervention group who performed perineum massage of 15 respondents and 15 respondents remaining were control group. The independent variable was antenatal perineum massage and the dependent variable was perineum rupture incidence. Data was analyzed by Chi-Square and Odds Ratio test. Result of research showed that of intervetion group 66,7% did not experience rupture and 33,3% experienced rupture. While of control group 20% did not experience rupture and 80% experienced rupture. χ2 of Chi-Square test result was (4,89) >χ2 tabel (3,84) indicating that there was effect of antenatal perineum massage on perineum rupture incidence with OR value = 8. This research concluded that there was effect of antenatal perineum massage on perineum rupture incidence in primiparous women. Suggestions to the midwife, to provide counseling to pregnant women that perineum massage is one intervention to prevent perineum rupture in delivery.
