Abstract

Background. (Teaching) Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Airlangga University has many functional services units, abbreviated as UPF, including UPF of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. OMS unit consists of two facilities, i.e. Outpatient clinic (Klinik) and operating room (OK). OK should be kept as aseptic as possible at all times. To achieve the aseptic condition it should meet certain requirements such as limited numbers of persons are allowed, certain gowns to be worn by persons working in OK, the access door be arranged so that it is always closed. The Klinik, on the other hand, is used for routine non-surgical treatment that does not need to meet such requirements as that for OK. It is assumed, therefore, that OK of OMS unit should have lower content of microorganism than Klinik of OMS unit. Purpose. The aim of this study is to observe the difference in number of microorganism between OK and Klinik OMS unit in Dental Hospital FKG unair. Method. This study is carried out with observation of the growth of microorganism colony in blood agar which is placed in OK and klinik in OMS unit. Three Petridis of blood agar are placed in each. Conclusion. The result of this study is number of microorganism colony in OK 17,4 and Klinik 16, so there was nosignificant difference in number ofcoloniesof microorganismsbetween the OK and Klinik.
