Abstract

Background. Dental radiographs are a useful and necessary tool in the diagnosis and treatment of oral disease such as caries, periodontal disease and oral pathologies. Although radiation doses in dental radiographs are low, exprosure to radiation should be minimize. In order to get optimal measurement, periapical radioghraphic can be added to evaluate the bone loss in hypertension pasien. As other systemic disease, hypertension also giving oral manifestasion such as periodontal disease. Periodontal disease can be detected from periapical radioghraphic such as alveolar bone loss, which is the severity is vary in each person. Recent studied have reported is an important factor in morbidity and mortality including ischemic heart disease and atherosclerosis progesion is started from hypertension. Hypertension is progresive disease which blood pressure of body is higher on lenght of time. Hypertension is stratified by baseline systolic blood presure (≥120mmHg ) or Diastolic blood presure(≥90mmHg ). Purpose. The aim of this study is to obtain alveolar bone loss severity on hypertension patients through periapical radiographic observation. Method.this was descriptive observational study. Sample were chosen as 30 men 35-50 years old without any systemic disease except hypertension, not above ortodontic or any dental treatment and have been higher blood pressure for about two years. Periapical radiograph (paralel technique) is done each on their posterior teeth (P2,M1,M2) mandibula. The alveolar bone loss is measured from distal and mesial each tooth. The measurement then classified into severity of bone loss : absence (0-2mm), moderate (3-5mm) or advanced (≥6mm). Result. most of severity is absence (0-2mm), few is moderate and none is advance. Conclusion. There are bone loss severity on hypertension patients which can be more severe if leave untreated.
