Abstract

Dental caries is a disease that is commonly primary school students that will affect the degree of health and growth process. Dental comics is an art that uses images and not moving, so became story about the prevention of dental caries that can be used to increase knowledge about prevention of dental caries. The purpose of this study to determine the effectiveness dental comic to increase knowledge about prevention of dental caries in primary school students. This study used experimental semi-analytic research with the entire population of students in grade VA and VB in SDN Gading 1 Surabaya. The number of the sample was 96 respondents. This study used total sampling as a sampling technique. Data were obtained by using a questionnaire and then were analyzed by using statistical test Independent Sample t-Test and Paired Sample t- Test. The test results of Paired Sample t-Test in the test group showed that the correlation between two variables is equal to 0.407 with a sig for 0.004 means the Ho rejected. This means that there is increased knowledge about prevention of dental caries in primary school children before and after using dental comics. From the test results of Independent Sample t-Test obtained a value of 0.971 (sig> 0.05) indicating that Ho is accepted. In conclusion that the use of dental comics can improve knowledge about prevention of dental caries in primary school children. However, there is no significant in increased knowledge of oral health between the use of dental comics and only the use of conventional method.
