Abstract

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) known as etiology of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) which weaken immune system. The state of the oral lesions play an important role in the determination of diagnostic and prognosis of patients with HIV/AIDS, such as Oral Hairy Leukoplakia. Oral Hairy Leukoplakia is one of the oral lesions are often found in patients with HIV/AIDS and can be used as predictors of progression to AIDS and a strong indicator of immunosuppression as well. Oral Hairy Leukoplakia was found at levels of CD4+ count less than 200 cells/mm3. Purpose : The aim of this study was to know the prevalence of Oral Hairy Leukoplakia in HIV/AIDS patients. Methods : This research has been done at Unit Perawatan Intermediet Penyakit Infeksi (UPIPI) RSU Dr. Soetomo. The oral cavity of the study was examined by clinically dentist to observe Oral Hairy Leukoplakia and oral lesion which present. Results : Of the 56 patients with HIV/AIDS, there were 23 patients Oral Hairy Leukoplakia (41,1%) with CD4+ count less 200 cells/mm3. Consists of 15 male patients and 8 female patients. There was correlation between Oral Hairy Leukoplakia and CD4+ count of 0,000. Conclusion : Oral Hairy Leukoplakia found in CD4+ count less than 200 cells/mm3 and mostly in male patients.
