Abstract
Background. Acrylic resin is the most common material for fabricating removable dentures. It possesses fine properties in many aspects, but it also has weaknesses regarding the ideal criteria for a perfect removable denture especially the transverse strength. Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene fiber (UHMWPE) has some properties that are suggested for enhancing the transverse strength of acrylic resin. Purpose. The aim for this study was to assemble the data in relation to the transverse strength of acrylic resin enhanced with UHMWPE. Method. This study was a laboratory experiment involving 32 pieces of samples and the samples were divided into four different groups equally.UHMWPE then was added in several concentrations, i.e. 0 wt% (control), 3 wt%, 6 wt% and 9 wt%. The dimension for all samples were 60mm x 10mm x 3.3mm according to ISO 1567:1999 standard. Results. There were significant difference between the control group and treatment groups (p<0.05). The highest result was the 6-wt% group ( 120.3150) and the lowest result was the 9-wt% group ( 99,8975). There was no significant difference between control group and the 3-wt% group. Conclusion. The increasing concentration of fiber does not always mean enhancing the tra
