Abstract

Background. Tooth extraction is a very common procedure in dentistry, especially in the field of oral surgery. Extraction procedure would leave large wound on the tooth socket. The process of wound healing after tooth extraction is by second intention, such healing takes longer to complete and produce more granulation tissue. Eggshell is a natural substance that can be used to accelerate wound healing. Calcium contained in the eggshell, is thought to have an influence on the increase of the number of fibroblasts, that leads to accelerate wound healing. Purpose. To determine the effect of eggshell gel on the number of fibroblasts in wound healing after tooth extraction. Method. This study is an experimental laboratory research conducted on Cavia cobaya after tooth extraction. Experimental animals were divided into 2 groups, control groups given CMCNa3% and the treatment groups given eggshell gel. The counting of fibroblasts were performed on third day and seventh day post-extraction. Results. There are significant differences in the number of fibroblasts between control group and treatment groups on third day post extraction and between control group and treatment group on seventh day post-extraction. Conclusion. Eggshells gel increased the number of fibroblasts after tooth extraction
