Abstract

Background. Neutrophils has been found inside the human body as the first line defensive system, they are also appeared in saliva as well. Increased number of these could be considered as an indicator of inflammation occurred inside human body for example is dental caries. Socio economic status held an important role for human health, it can be known as direct effect by health education, diet, and environment. Purpose. Analyzing how the number of neutrophils and socio economic status have an important role for dental caries can be happened. Method. This study used a total sampling to collect saliva as a sample to count it later, conducted by the research phases as follows: Collecting saliva using passive drop technique, put those inside cryotube, keep in freezer box with -20oC, centrifuge in order to get serum and pellets, counting neutrophils based on each saliva sample with light microscope. Socio economic status has been checked right before with questioner form . Results. Free caries group shows that dominated by good socio economic status and the number of neutrophils has been found relatively normal. However, caries group shows the contrary results. Conclusion. Increased number of neutrophils and socio economic status can be an indicator for dental caries
