Abstract

Background: Orthodontics treatment goals is to get a healthy occlusion functionally and esthetically. Facial esthetics is greatly influenced by soft tissue facial profile, include position of lips. In the other hand, the incisor inclination has an important role in establishing facial esthetics too. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the relationship between mandibular incisor inclination and position of lips. Method: The subject were native Javanese for two generations, with symmetric face and had never been orthodontics treatment. The sample was from male and female students at the Airlangga University, with an age range from 18 to 25 years. On comparing the results of this research which is carried out on Javanese sample with Rickett’s analysis, cephlometric tracing are carried out using the same points, lines, angles and axis of Rickett's analysis. Result: The data was analyed statistically by using independent t-test and correlation test. The results were as the mean values of the mean values of Ls–E line were -0,66 (male) and -2,38, and the mean values of Li-E line were 0,23 (male) and -1,25 (female). Conclusion: There is no correlation between mandibular incisor inclination and position of lips but there is correlation between upper lip and lower lip..
