Abstract

Background. Dental enamel demineralization can be resulted by acidic exposure, and in this cases herbal teas have a low acid level as said in previous study. While there are many kind of herbal teas with many composition varieties, some herbal teas which composed from tea leaves (herbal tea), and some herbal teas which composed without tea leaves (herbal tea infusion). Purpose. The aim of this study is to determine whether herbal tea of the type tested demineralized dental enamel to a greater or lesser extent than herbal tea infusion. Method. 2 groups of teeth were exposed to herbal teas (group A and Group C). 2 groups of teeth were exposed to herbal tea infusions (group B and Group D). After that Calcium were observed by Atomic Absorbtion Spechtrophotometer. Results. Both herbal teas and herbal tea infusions resulted in dental enamel demineralization. Dental enamel demineralization which were exposed to herbal teas (mean 7.6644) and (mean 10.0863) lesser than which were exposed to herbal tea infusions (mean 16.6388) and (mean 17.3050). Conclusion. Dental enamel demineralization which were exposed to herbal tea infusions greater than which were exposed to herbal tea.
