Abstract

Background Breastfeeding has been decreased annually. It is becaused most of parents choose formula milk as their children’s nutrition especially for them who live in the city. Early childhood caries is an oral disease happened in infants under 3 years old. That was a multifactorial disease which is breastfeeding is one of potential factor. Purpose. The aim of this research is to know breastfeeding pattern and its early childhood caries. Method. This research was conducted on subjects aged 6-36 months. The subject was divided into infants and their mother. The mother was interviewed by questionnaire about breastfeeding pattern including breastfeeding periode, breastfeeding duration, and breastfeeding frequency whereas the infants had a dental caries examination. This research was conducted about two weeks Result. Only a few people who gave breastmilk to their children. They provided breast milk to their children for 7-12 months, everytime, and more than 4 times a day. There was 61,76 % subjects who suffered early childhood caries and it was mostly happened in infants aged 31-36 months. Conclusion. Mother’s awareness of the importance of breast milk is still
