Abstract

Background: Acrylic based denture are contaminated by Candida albicans that caused stomatitis while contact with palatal mucosa, especially ChronicErythematous Candidiasis. Denture need to be cleaned by immersed it into chemical liquid. In this case, the chemical liquid is propolis solution. Propolis contains pinocembrin, galangin, pinobanksin, sakuranetin, luteolin, quercetin which is a type of flavonoid and caffeic acid, ferulic acid, which is one of the bonding of phenol and have antimicrobes activity especially against Candida Albicans. Purpose: To find out the ability of propolis solution in inhibiting the growth of Candida albicans’s colony on acrylic based denture. Materials and Method: Samples of acrylic plate were contamined by Candida Albicnas and were immersed in sterile aquadest and propolis solution for 15 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes. Then samples of acrylic were vibrated to fall of Candida albicans and the colonies of candida were counted by Quebec Colony Counter. Result: There is significant decrease of Candida Albicans colonies growth with different time in a solution of propolis. Conclusion: Propolis does decrease the number of Candida Albicans colonies growth. As long as the time, so that the ability of the propolis solution to kill the Candida Albicans getting stonger.
