Abstract

This research concern to confirm the causative agent of layer chickens suspected fowl cholera in Bojonegoro district is Pasteurella multocida or not. The sample were isolated from layer chickens suspected fowl cholera with gross examined from the clinical sign and post-mortem finding of peracute, acute and chronic forms of fowl cholera. The samples were taken from heart, liver, tracheal swab, swollen wattle, and joint. All samples were inoculated on blood agar and incubated for 24 hours at 370C. The bacterial colonies were examined for their morphological and biochemical characteristics with Pasteurella mutocida. The result indicated the positive one of bacterial culture from acute form from 40 samples of 20 layer chickens showed similarity with characteristic of Pasteurella multocida which is causative agent of fowl cholera. The present Pasteurella multocida as causative agent of fowl cholera in Bojonegoro district was 5 % from 20 layer chickens.
