Abstract

The process of aging on a person and animal is a natural phenomenon as a result of increasing age, therefore this phenomenon is not a disease and if not well anticipated would lead to share problems. This study was aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of pegagan (Centella asiatica) on the histopathological picture of tibia rat (Rattus norvegicus) as a parameter females ovariectomy model of osteoporosis therapy. This study used 21 female rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar type age of 14 weeks ovariectomized. The rats randomly divided into three treatments, treatment includes control, P1: treatment dose of 60 mg / kg per day, and P2: treatment dose of 120 mg / kg per day. At the end of treatment (age 18 weeks) tibia bone were collected and prepared for histopatological diagnosis. The results showed that there was a significant difference (P <0.05) in the tibia bone histopathological pictures between the tree treatments. It was concluded that the histopathological P2 images of a white rat tibia bone is the best compared to the control and P1 traetments. Therefore ethanol extract of pegagan (Centella asiatica) dose of 120 mg / kg per day in the rat ovariectomized can reduce the effects of bone loss.
