Abstract

This research was done to identify the influence of elephant grass and rice straw silage sprayed with the suspension Lactobacillus sp. and Saccharomyces serevisiae towards ammonia nitrogen and pH of sheeps rumen. It was used as an indicator of the normal sheeps rumen fluid condition. There were twelve male sheeps aged one year for the research and divided in four treatment (P0, P1, P2 and P3). PO was a control treatment in which sheeps were fed silage without suspension of Lactobacillus sp. and Saccharomyces serevisiae. P1 was first in which sheeps were fed silage mixed with 106 in concentration of Lactobacillus sp 3 %. P2 was second in which sheeps were fed silage mixed with Saccharomyces serevisiael%o. P3 was third in which sheeps were fed silage mixed wich 106 in concentration of Lactobacillus sp.3% and Saccharomyces serevisiael%o. Three kilograms silage was given to each treatment every day for two weeks. The sheeps rumen fluid was carried out in the next three weeks at six hours after feeding and continued by laboratory examination of ammonia nitrogen and sheeps rumen fluid pH. The data were analyzed using the analysis of variance statistic method and if there were difference among the treatment, the Duncan's multiple range test was used. The result showed that there were no significant difference (p>0,005). It could be concluded that the ammonia nitrogen and pH of sheep's rumen fluid were normal by giving the silage of elephant grass and rice straw.
