Abstract

Calcium was an essential component for ruminants such as Banteng (Bos javanicus), particularly in the Surabaya Zoo. Research to determine the concentration of calcium was necessary to be done to see if the calcium concentration inside the bull's body is already meet the standards and whether normal or not in compliance with the feed. This study uses eight bulls consist of five males and three females. Using ash analysis which was then seen on the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer) showed an average hair levels of calcium concentration on bulls in the Surabaya Zoo 2.637 to 4.591% with the concentration of calcium in the feed was 0.3028% and the results have met the standard for maintenance. When compared with the content of calcium in the serum tends to be low at 0.087 to 0.119% as well as in hair and dairy cattle (Holstein Friesian) is only 0.5869%, so the content of calcium of the hair of a bull in the Surabaya Zoo adequate for the maintenance.
