Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of black seed to prevent the increasing of blood glucose levels after injected by alloxan. Twenty rats were divided into five groups P0, P1, P2, P3 and P4. Group P0 as negative control of hyperglycemia and group P1 as positive control of hyperglycemia which rats were injected with alloxan 120 mg/kg b.w. Group P2, P3 and P4 were receive black seed with each dose was 5 mg/kg b.w, 10 mg/kg b.w, and 15 mg/kg b.w respectively for seven days and injected by alloxan 120 mg/kg b.w to increase blood glucose. The blood samples were taken 48 hours after alloxan injection for measuring the level of blood glucose. The data were collected and analyzed by using ANOVA and Turkey’s Multiple Range Test methods and processed by using SPSS 17 computer software progam. The result of the experiment showed that there was a significant difference in blood glucose varian analysis and P1 was significantly different from P0, P3 and P4. However, P2 was not significantly from P1. The highest blood glucose P1 and lowest blood glucose was P4, P3, P0 and P2. In conclusion administration of black seed prior to the alloxan injection was capable to decrease the levels of blood glucose in the rats.
