Abstract

The aim of this study is to know the Anthelmintic Activity of Ethanol Extract of Basil Leaves (Ocimum americanum Linn.) Againt Haemonchus contortus Death in vitro. Basil leaves that already washed, then aired out without exposure to sunlight. The dried basil leaves then blended and filtered to get the powder form. Basil leaves extract were made by maseration methode which is soaking of basil leaves with ethanol for 3 days then filtered and the filtrate obtained then be concentrated by rotavapor with temperature of 48oC. The extract were made by the concentration ( weigh / volume) of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10 %. For the positive control using PBS and DMSO while for the negative control using Albendazole 10 mg/ml. 10 female Haemonchus contortus were soaked in various treatment in petri disk. The treatment were repeated 4 times for each treatment. The observation is done every one hour for 6 hours to know that the Haemonchus contortus is still alive or not. The result of this researh show that the basil leaves extract has anthelmintic effects against Haemonchus contortusin vitro. The higher the concentration of the extract, the higher the property of its anthelmintic. In the extract with 10% concentration, there is anthelmintics property that almost the same as Albendazole. In probit analysis show that LC50 extract, the longer the immersion time, the lower the concentration of the extract needed.
