Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the benefit of Phyllanthus niruri, Linn, as natural coccidiostat, through its potency on decreasing of caecum damage of chicken infected with Eimeria tenella. Twenty eight broiler chickens at twenty one days old randomly were divided into four groups of treatment (n=7), including group A as negative control, group B was infected with Eimeria tenella at dose 5x103 oocysts without Phyllanthus niruri, Linn administration, group C was administered with Phyllanthus niruri, Linn three days before infected with Eimeria tenella dose 5x103 oocysts and group D was administered with Phyllanthus niruri, Linn and infected with Eimeria tenella dose 5x103 oocysts/chicken in the same time. On twenty seven days old, all broiler chickens were sacrified for caecum histopathological examination. The data of histopathological changes was determined by scoring, and analyzed with Kruskall Wallis test. The result of this study showed significantly differences (p < 0.05), between positive control group with Phyllanthus niruri, Linn treatment group, it means Phyllanthus niruri, Linn treatment effective reduced the damage of caecum of Eimeria tenella infected chicken.
