Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effect of giving banana stem and bark extract of Musa parasidiaca var. sapientum to the growth of E.coli, whether the extract inhibit or killing bacteria. The research used experimental method, it was proved by in vitro antibacterial test using dilution method. The extraction was conducted using maceration method. Viscous extracts were diluted using 10% dimethyl sulfoxide. Those extracts were then divided into three separate groups; K (control), P(bark) and B(stem). This research uses 6 treatments of the concentrations 100%, 75%, 50%, 25%, 12.5% and 0% (control) respectively. E. coli suspension of 1 Mc farland was administered to each group. The results of this research showed that the extracts influence inhibiting or killing E. coli. The stem extract concentration of 50% are better killing effect compared to that of 100% on both concentration. Stem extract is better than bark extract.
