Abstract

Babirusa (Babyrousa babyrussa) is one of the Indonesian vulnerable endemic animal species. The digestive system of babirusa is different from other non ruminant animals. The aim of this study is to measure the crude fibre digestibility of babirusa which feed with water spinach and sweet potato in Surabaya Zoo. Food and feacal sample were collected from two groups of adult animals, male and female, which is each group consist of two animals. The sample was analyzed for dry matter and crude fibre values using Weendee's proximate analyses. The digestibility measured by comparing the value of crude fibre of feed intake to feaces. The result shown that crude fibre digestibility in babirusa which feed with water spinach and sweet potato is about 83,4% ± 4,91.
