Abstract

The purpose of this research to observed the anti-inflammatory effect of Momordica charantia Linn fruit to compared with aspirin, in rats. Subjects were male rats of 2-3 month old with body weight of 160-200 g, divided into 5 groups. First groups was given CMC 0,5% only, Second groups was given aspirin 62.5 mg/kg body weight, Third groups was given with extract ethanol of Momordica charantia Linn 208,33 mg/kg body weight, Fourth groups was given with extract of Momordica charantia Linn 250 mg/kg body weight, Fifth groups was given with extract ethanol of Momordica charantia Linn 312.5 mg/kg body weight of rat in CMC 0,5 % Suspension. Evaluated the anti-inflammatory effect of Momordica charantia Linn by measuring the inhibition of oedema volume. The Substance was given per-oral, one hour after carragenan 1% suspension was given 0,05 ml intraplantar into the right paw rats. The oedema volume was measured with the plethysmometer. After analyzed with ANOVA two ways (a = 0,05) than be continued HSD test. The result showed that there were significant between control negative group with the other group. This result showed that the extract ethanol of Momordica charantia Linn had an anti-inflammatory effect.
