Abstract

The number of traffic accidents in Indonesia increases during year to year and more in the world. The ratio of accident victims in highways reaches 2 million of people for each year. This is caused by many factors such as human, vehicle, road and environment factors. However, the human factor is the major cause of accident that reaches 89,56%, particularly in adolescent group, thus this matter requires a huge portion of notification because, If it is not overcome, it will decrease the quality of human resources. The objective of the study is to comprehend the relationship of human characteristics with the motorcycle traffic accidents on in-patients in Surgery Room of Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya. This study constitutes an analytical study in which the design is care control. The number of samples is depicted from 70 patients consisting of 35 patients of case group and 35 patients of control group. Each variable being observed is tested using univariate logistic regression; to know which variable has the most related to the occurrence of motorcycle accident, then it is subsequently carried on using multivariate logistic regression. From the results of the study, it can be drawn that among those variable of age, sex, drunk condition, tiredness, sleepiness, vehicle speed and driving license ownership, it proves that variable which has the most related to the accident is age.
