Abstract

Glaucoma is the second most cause of blindness after cataract. Different to cataract, blindness which is caused by glaucoma, is permanent or cannot be repaired. This condition can cause the decrease of life’s quality of the patients, because eyes itself is one of the five senses which is really important in sight function, with the disruption function of sight, glaucoma patients will have difficulties to do activity. The purpose of this study is to analyze factor which relate to the life’s quality of the glaucoma patients in RS Mata Undaan Surabaya so that the researcher can do intervention in order to make the illness cannot be more severe. The life’s quality of the glaucoma patients measured by using NEIVFQ 25 questionnaires which contains 25 questions about effect of various eyes condition in doing daily activity along with the quality of life. This study is an observational analytic study with cross sectional design. Samples of this study are 68 glaucoma patients who calculated by using systematic random sampling or multiple patient’s presence. The data are collected by using interviews on patients. The result showed that there are relationship between knowledge (p = 0.033) and sickness period (p = 0.035) with the life’s quality of the glaucoma patients. The other variables such as age, education, types of glaucoma, types of medication, and pressure intraoculer are not related to the life’s quality of the glaucoma patients. The conclusion from this study is there are relationship between knowledge and sickness period with the life’s quality of the glaucoma patients. From both those variables, it can be known that knowledge is the dominant variable which is related to the quality of life.
