Abstract

Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii that transmitted from animals to humans (zoonis). Actually the symptoms of toxoplasmosis are asymptomatic with non-spesific and similar to other diseases. Cats are definite host of Toxoplasma gondii. The feces from infected cat contains million oocysts and infective to humans. Causality model used in epidemiological studies are epidemiological triangle consisting of host, agent and environment. Host factors from this research is human’s immunoglobulin G (IgG) specific toxoplasmosis, agent factors is Toxoplasma gondii, and environment factors are sanitary hygiene and exposure. The purpose of this study was to analyze correlation between exposure from cats, symptoms, preventive measures, and level of immunoglobulin G (IgG) specific toxoplasmosis with toxoplasmosis disease to people who own and don’t own cats in Surabaya city. This research is an analytic observational research with cross sectional design. The subject is choosen randomly. This research was done to 25 respondents as cat owner and 25 respondents who aren’t. Data is collected from questionnaire and respondents’ blood sample. Prevalence of toxoplasmosis in cat owner 52% and 48% in not-cat owner. Fisher's exact test showed that there is a relationship between the presence of feral cats (sig. = 0,000; value = 0,484), number of feral cats (sig. = 0,074; value = 0,289), presence of cat's feces (sig. = 0,067; value = 0,351), abdominal pain (sig. = 0,042; value = 0,283), dizziness (sig. = 0.046; value = 0,318), and fatigue (sig. = 0,085; value = 0,283) with incidence of toxoplasmosis. Spearman test showed that there is a relationship between PPE usage habits (sig. = 0,040; value = 0,292), use of masks= when in contact with a cat (sig. = 0,071; value = 0,257), and the habit of washing hands before eating (sig. = 0,099; value = 0,236) with incidence of toxoplasmosis. For those respondents with positive toxoplasmosis should do rehabilitation and increase their preventive activity especially using personal safety tools and washing hands before eating.
