Abstract
his study deals with narrative, especially Labovian narrative structure. In his theory, Labov divided narrative into six elements; Abstract, Orientation, Complicating Action, Evaluation, Resolution and Coda. By using Labovian narrative structure, this study aims identify the themes of a gay’s life story and analyze whether the sub themes are organized based on Labovian narrative structure. Unstructured or open-ended interview is used in this study to obtain the data. Then the data is transcribed and coded according to its informational function by Labovian narrative structure. This study uses qualitative method to analyze the data. After the process of analyzing the data, this study found that some features are sometimes present or absent in the gay’s life story. The context and type of the story plays a big role in defining the structure of story.
