Abstract
This study aims to examine how the aristocratic women are portrayed in one of the influential Muslim countries, Saudi Arabia. They are constructed by the patriarchal ideology which has close relation to the religion which is very strong. These women are oppressed and considered as the subordinated class. They are marginalized and often treated unfairly by the society. This situation is portrayed by Sultana in Jean Sasson’s Princess. In analyzing the issues, the writer uses a qualitative method by elaborating dialogues, events, and conflicts in the novel and applies the theory which is suitable to the discussion. The writer uses feminism approach and the Islamic feminism theory as the supporting theory. The Islamic feminism is chosen because it is known that Saudi Arabia is considered as Muslim country. That’s why the writer considers it as the most appropriate theory. From the analysis, the writer finds that the women are alienated to get proper treatment by the society. These women do not have enough freedom to convey their feeling and choose their own way for living. They do not have any rights to choose what they want. They are also treated very differently compared to men. The study above is to give views on how the society treats women, particularly the aristocratic Arab women.
