Abstract
This study attempts to discuss the issue emerged in the novel Disgrace by J. M. Coetzee. It is a complicated story about an old White man, named David Lurie who his life changed from an honored professor becomes a helper in animal clinic whose job execute unwanted dog. He has bad habit in satisfying his sexual desire; he never considers the risk and consequences of his action which lead him to rejection, ignorance, scandal and disgrace. He experience difficulty in learning the value of moral since he did not ashamed of what he done to every women he had affair with, but the incident that he and his daughter suffered from finally teach him the lesson. The writer uses intrinsic approach as the tool to analyze the story, which emphasized in characterization and conflict. Through the analysis, the writer finds that David’s behavior, which cannot accept by several communities yet, leads him to the conflicts. David suffers conflicts from himself, his prostitute, coed, women of his affairs, his daughter, Petrus and Pollux. Almost all his conflicts make him getting disgrace. His disgrace is leveled and his highest disgrace stage is all about his daughter, especially after the incident. His disgrace is not only personal disgrace, but also inter-race disgrace.
