Thesis thesis, UNIVERSITAS AIRLANGGA.
Abstract
The main interest of this particular study is the Chinese representation in the novel The Pathfinders of Love written by Richard Oh, an Indonesian author, and the representation found in the common prejudice in the large society. The theory of new historicism is considered as the right tool to analyze this certain problem.
Through examining and researching the official historical accounts, we can conclude that actually the image and representation of the Chinese are intentionally given by particular ruling power at particular time. The nature of being sly, selfish, ignorant, and greedy is given by the ruling power in order to maintain their domination over the people of Indonesia.
