Abstract

This study attempts to discuss waste as the major ecosystem problem which happened in 2805 as represented on Wall-E. This ninety minutes film was directed by Andrew Stanton which released in 2008 under Disney Pixar production. Wall-E tells about Earth that was covered by waste, and Buy N’ Large as the only company tries to create several alternative solutions toward waste problem. The main concern of this study is to analyze waste problem and its solutions as seen on the film by using Ecocriticism theory suggested by Cheryll B. Glotfelty. After analyzing the object, the study finds that waste becomes the major ecosystem damage, and cause further ecosystem problem such as land, air, and water pollution. Thus, this film offers some alternative solutions for that problem by creating Axiom, Wall-E, and Eve robots. It also finds that the ideology constructed to the film is anti-pastoral. All of those findings are supported by non-narrative as the supporting aspect.
