Abstract

Root of red castor (Jatropha gossypifolia L.) as kind of plant which contained chemicals compounds such as jatrophenone, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenolic. This plant frequently to treating hemorrhoid. One the symptoms of hemorrhoids are inflammation and painful. This research purpose to identify whether extract off red castor has anti-inflammation and analgesic effects. This research as laboratory experimental research by using post test only control group design. Object of this research is white rat wistar rattus novergicus, adult male with samples of 30 tails rat. Measurement to anti inflammatory test use plestysmometer while analgesic test using hot plate. Data analysis technique that used using one way ANOVA with error level 5%. But if does not ineligible or data distribution not normal then done analysis with KruskalWallist test. The result of this research suggested that anti inflammatory by using ANOVA test 0,073 (p > 0,05), while analgesic test using Kruskal wallis test with 0,000 (p < 0,05) result show that ethanol extract of red castor root has significant analgesic effect. To test the relationship analysis of the results obtained antiinflammatory 0.951 (p> 0.05), whereas the relationship analysis test results obtained 0,037 analgesics (p <0.05). Based on the yield can be concluded that red castor root work inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme, who responsible for prostaglandin production that cause edema or inflammation incidence.
