Abstract

@menandcoffee is an account on Instagram which uploads the photos of men bringing a cup of coffee. Instagram itself is one of the biggest social media while coffee has been known as male‘s beverage. This combination between coffee and social media makes this account as an interesting object to be analyzed in cultural studies. Media is known as the creator of some ideologies in society. One of those ideologies which is affected by media is masculinity. The combination between social media and coffee is related to the masculinity issue. By applying the qualitative research and Semiotic approach, the writer aims to reveal the masculinity construction implied in the account. The result shows that hybrid masculinity construction is represented in the account. Hybrid masculinity in this account is represented as a negotiation between New Lad and New Man masculinity. The negotiation appears as the effect of feminism that asks for the equality between men and women in term of working area but not in term of appearance.
