Abstract
Erythema Nodosum Leprosum (E.N.L) is an acute inflammatory episodes occurred during the chronic course of the disease in Leprosy. It is often proceeded by physical or emotional stress, but the definite mechanism remains unclear. The release of adrenalin during stress might be an important factor for ENL. An analytic cross sectional study has been conducted to a group of different grade of ENL patien to reveal a possible correlation between the level of serum adrenalin, malondialdehyde (MDA), IgG and IgM anti PGL-1 with ENL severity grades. The study was conducted to 45 leprosy patients at Leprosy Hospital Dr. Rivai Abdullah Palembang and Dr. Tadjuddin Khalik Makassar. In use of ELISA and spectrofotometer it seem elevated level of MDA showed a significant correlation with severe ENL, and the trend of IgM anti PGL-1 antibody showed an increasing level toward the severe ENL, but not statistically significant. It is concluded that high level of serum MDA correlates with the severity of ENL.
