Abstract

This dissertation aims to prove the truth of an internal or external conditions that encourage the dynamics of Muhammadiyah and NU boarding school, the meaning of elite both organizations as well as the reasons underlying the differences or similarities interpretation of the dynamics of boarding schools in coastal and inland north coast Lamongan District. This study uses qualitative methods, the approaches of Peter L. Berger and Schutz fenomelologi. The results prove the internal conditions, which is figure kiai in synergy with the involvement of experts in foundation of boarding school which most determines the dynamics of Muhammadiyah and NU boarding schools. There kiai only take one path but there are also taking an ideological third way between the ideological with the realistic (well-being of the ummah). Explain the dynamics in boarding schools in the surrounding, the elites of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama are varied. Muhammadiyah elite inland to explain the negative development of the ideology of Muhammadiyah, and is not economically profitable. Elite inland NU explain positive for the development of ideology, although not significantly positive economically. Muhammadiyah elite coastal explain varied, there is a positive explain ideologically and economically, there are only positive explain in terms of ideology but not completely positive economically. While Nahdlatul Ulama coastal elite only explain positive for the development of NU ideology, not on the economy. Even so, both NU elite in the countryside and coastal dynamics explain NU boarding school as a positive thing for the education of NU children as well as elite Muhammadiyah coastal explain the dynamics of the Muhammadiyah boarding school in coastal areas as a positive thing for education of Muhammadiyah children. While inland of the Muhammadiyah elite boarding school explain the dynamics of inland is not significantly positive for Muhammadiyah education, so it does not support the existence of boarding school. For elite Muhammadiyah and NU, the similarities or differences in meanings of the dynamics of boarding school more because of personal motives rather than the organization. Theoretical implications, these findings as well as perfect mixing structuration theory and the theory of The Third Way Giddens, refused the theory and the theory of hegemony Gramci Cuercy Louis Althusser, and find the perfection combination theory and phenomenology of Alfred Schutz Peter L. Berger.
