Abstract
Objectives: Rapid sequence intubation (RSI) is an active airway intervention used frequently in emergency room. Benefit of this intubation technique is very low incident. Methods: Observational study of intubation at emergency departement Dr Soetomo Hospital. Data collection include age, gender, type of intubation, training level of operator, indication for intubation and major immediate adverse events Results: 79 of 324 patients enter emergency room need intubation. The most technique used was RSI 72 patients ( 91 % ) crash intubation 5 patients ( 6 % ) and techniques sleep apnea 2 patients ( 3 % ) with the most common cause interference oxygenation 39 patients ( 49 % ) and after it unconsciousness 34 patients ( 43 % ) . Most diagnosis is severe traumatic brain injury in 19 patients ( 24 % ) followed by pulmonary edema , breathing distress , and pneumonia each one 7 patients ( 9 % ) . The operator is the most resident 5-7 semester as many as 54 patients ( 68 % ) , then resident semester > 8 were 21 patients ( 27 % ) and resident semester 3-4 as much as 3 patients ( 4 % ) of the patients. Complication is hypotension 23 events ( 29 % ) , desaturation 8 events ( 10 % ) , arrhythmias 7 events ( 9 %), endotracheal intubation 3 events ( 4 % ) and intubation esophageal and aspiration pneumonia each of the events ( 1 % ) . Conclusion: The most technique use was RSI, but with low obedience to protocol
