Abstract
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to describe the correlation between ROS levels in plasma with hearing threshold level in presbycusis patients who come for treatment at URJ THT-KL Neurotologi Division and URJ Geriatric Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. Methods : Design of the study is cross sectional. Research conducted at the URJ THT-KL Neurotologi Division, URJ Geriatrics, Clinical Pathology Installation and Tissue Bank Biomaterials Center Installation of Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya in October 2015 to March 2016. Samples were taken by consecutive sampling. Obtained 50 samples for audiometric examination and ROS levels measurement in plasma. ROS levels in plasma were measured by ELISA method with human ROS ELISA kit reagent of Elabscience with catalog number E-ELH5436. Hearing thresholds were measured using audiometer Interacoustics AD226 type. Data is ratio scale and performed statistical analytic with correlation of Pearson. Result : Results of this study, the obtained samples of 20 male patients and 30 female patients with a ratio of 2: 3. Sample age range is 65 to 83 years with a mean (SD) of 71.7800 (4.76505). ROS levels in plasma showed a mean (SD) of 2.4616 ng/ml (0.84371), with a minimum level of 0.10 ng / ml and a maximum level of 4.29 ng/ml. Hearing threshold levels showed a mean (SD) 47.7000 dB (12.41995), with a minimum level of 28.00 dB and a maximum level of 80.00 dB. Results of statistical analytic with correlation of Pearson to the ROS levels in plasma and hearing threshold levels showed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.410 and p = 0.003 (p < 0.05). This means there is a significant moderate positive correlation between ROS levels in plasma with hearing threshold level in presbycusis patients. Conclusion : there is correlation ROS levels in plasma with hearing threshold level in presbycusis patients with moderate positive correlation (r = 0.410), which means that the higher ROS levels in plasma higher hearing threshold levels.
