Abstract

The influence of Hyperbaric Oxygenation on blood Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), Superoxyde dismutase (SOD), Malondialdehyde (MDA) on healthy pre-old women was investigated. An experimental laboratory study was performed at Naval Health Institution in Surabaya. Nine healthy women were exposed to 100% 02 at 2,4 ATA, 3x30 minutes with interval 5 minutes breathing air, once a day on five consecutive days, and nine healthy pre-old women as control with normoksia normobaric. The blood ROS, SOD, and MDA were evaluated before the first session, after the third session and after the fifth session HBO exposures. The measurement of ROS using luminometri basicly by chemiluminescence and measurement SOD and MDA using spectrophotometry. On HBO group, was observed ROS decreased significantly after the third session (p<0,05), from ( 274,2222 ± 35,2468 ) before the first session to ( 152,3333 ± 20,9666 ) after the third session, and did not increased significantly (p?0,05) to (209,0000 ± 23,6814 ) after the fifth session. In this group SOD did not decreased significantly (p>_0,05) from (13,462 ± 0,1608 ) before the session to ( 12,780 ± 0,3566 ) after the third session, and increased not significantly (p_>0,05) after the fifth session (13,419 ± 0,3615 ). And MDA decreased significantly (p<0,05) from (2,35222 ± 0,1090) before the first session to (1,2022 ± 0,0815) after the third session, and increased significantly (p<0,05) after the fifth session (1,5467 ± 0,0946). On the control group all evaluated parameters did not differ significantly. Conclusion: ROS decreased significantly on OHB group compared with control group, SOD increased not significantly on OHB group compared with control group, MDA decreased not significantly on OHB group compared with control.
