Abstract
This research relates globalisation and terrorism in Indonesia in the case of terrorism activities by Jamaah Islamiyah's (JI) network during 2002-2009. The research question in this qualitative research with inductive method is how the relationship between globalisation and terrorism in Indonesia. Through analysis on data and facts obtained from in-depth interviews and review of written documents, it is found two thesis as answer of the research question. First, the process of globalisation increases the intensity of terrorism activites. The increased intensity is triggered by a people mobility from Indonesia to Afghanistan and the clash of identity with the Western values (especially the United States) experienced by the JI members. Second, the terrorist network uses information technology instrument for publishing global resistance messages widely. Through the internet, they use email to coordinate their network and websites to publish claim of responsibility for the bombings as well as to sound resistance to the United States. This finding has filled the theoretical gap on study of globalisation and terrorism that had only link the two major concepts through economy, culture, and information technology factor. Through this research, beyond the three variables, it is found evidence that mobility is the most influence factor on the acts of terrorism in Indonesia.
