Abstract

Sodium Nitrite (NaNO2) is a food preservative is likely to be abused. Sodium Nitrite poisoning is often the case is the reduced ability of hemoglobin to bind oxygen and formation of reactive oxygen species that can cause changes in erythrocytes profile. This research laboratory experiments using post test control group design to prove the effect of Sodium Nitrite on erythrocytes profile of the number erythrocytes, hemoglobin levels, hematocrit and reticulocytes count in male rats. Samples 33 white rats (Rattus norvegicus) male weight 175-200 grams were distributed into 3 groups (G1-3). G1 is the control group, while Group 2 is given Sodium Nitrite doses of 0.5 mg/200gram BB rats and G3 is the group given Sodium Nitrite doses of 1.5 mg/200gram BB rats for 30 days. Sodium Nitrite doses of 0.5 mg/200gram BB rats are safe doses have shown changes in erythrocytes profile and Sodium Nitrite doses of 1.5 mg/200 gram BB rats showed changes larger in erythrocytes profile. The conclusion of Sodium Nitrite with doses of 0.5 mg/200gram BB rats and Sodium Nitrite with doses of 1.5 mg/200gram BB rats can reduce the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit and increase reticulocytes count of male rats
