Abstract

Coeducation is a learning system which gives lessons to boys and girls together in a classroom and Non Coeducational is the practice of conducting education where male and female students attend separate classes which will affect the development of their self-esteem, which in turn will determine the professional role they will play later I society. When the ten students were asked what kind of profession they want to have, and what their ideals were, they all answered that they did not know and said that they would think about it when it comes by, as they had not thought about it. The design of the study is of a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population are the second year students of the Science Department with a Coeducational which amounts to 31 students, 29 second year male with a Non Coeducational, and 28 female with a Non Coeducational. To measure self-esteem before intervention to the three groups using Kruskal-Wallis statistical test, the result found was the value of Chisquare = 16,046 with a P value = 0,000. Whereas in measuring self-esteem the difference between before and after intervention to the three groups using the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test, resulted in a Chi-square value = 9,541 with a P value = 0,008. The result shows that there is a significant difference which affect the Coeducational system on the development of self-esteem by giving stories about professional roles compared to the Non Coeducational system.
