Abstract
As a nationwide readership newspaper, Jawa Pos always participates on every political events of what is so called “Democratic Feast,” by providing a political special rubric before the events take place. Two months before the 2009 Legislative Election (April 9, 2009) and President Election ( July 8, 2009), for example, Jawa Pos provides a special political rubric on its political affairs page, under its inspiring title; “The Road to Power”. The existence of Jawa Pos with its dominating market peneration in Surabaya as well as East Java relates to those above mentioned political events elicites the question; does the political special rubric on Jawa Pos Daily influences Jawa Pos readers voting behavior in 2009 Election? The study aims at explaining the influence of political special rubtic on Jawa Pos in voting behavior of Jawa Pos readers in 2009 Election. The study applies quantitive approach with explanatory research. The population involves in the study is the citizens of Surabaya as Jawa Pos readers who have voting rights in 2009 Election. There are 386 respondents involve in the study. The study proves that there is a significant relation between reading habit of political special rubric in Jawa Pos Daily to respondent voting behavior in Legislative Election (voting for the party) and President Election (voting for the president and vice president). The researcher finds out that the relation between the existence of the rubric and voting behavior is modest both in Legislative Election and President Election, and it even suggests that political special rubric on Jawa Pos has its effect on Jawa Pos readership voting behavior.
