Abstract

Potentiometry with a coated wire ion selective electrode (ISE) was developed as alternative method to Lanthanum. This electrode is made from a wire of electronic conductor that is coated by membrane. A coated wire ion selective electrode has simple shape, easier to prepare and cheaper because use silver wire as electronic conductor. This electrode is made from active material, i.e 5 mg ionofor calyx[4]arene, 90 mg plasticizer 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (NPOE), 45 mg polyvinyl cloride (PVC) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) as solvent in Ag coat. Potential measurement uses Ag/AgCl as reference electrodes. Optimum condition of measurement in pH 4-7, Characterization of ISE-La3+ are 20,19 Nernst factor, measurement range 10-6 – 10-1 M, detection limit 6,31x10-7 M, presition 0,65% - 1,61% and accuracy for 10-5, 10-3 and 10-1 are 100,57%, 106,84% and 109,55%. This electrode has good selectivity to La3+. Potential measurement is not influenced by alkaline ions (K+, Na+), earth alkaline ions (Ca2+, Mg2+) and internal transition ions (Cu2+, Pb2+). On the other hand, the external transition ions (Ce3+) relatively affect potential measurement.
