Abstract

Fire is an uncontrolled and unwanted event, which can result in loss of lives or victims and property damage. One of the efforts to overcome fires is using a hydrant. Fire hydrant installation is a fixed system fire suppression using pressurized water streamed through the pipe and fire hose. Hydrant Installation which does not comply will be hampered in extinguishing a fire due to coal. The general objective of this research was to study the installation of hydrants as one attempt at the fire in PT PJB UBJ O&M Paiton which includes source water supplies, water pumping systems for the hydrants, physical condition of the hydrant, installation of the hydrant and hydrant maintenance. This was descriptive research. Based on acquisition data time, it was a cross sectional research. Object research was installation hydrant in PT PJB UBJ O&M PLTU Paiton. The primary data was obtained by means of observations and field interview, while the secondary data was obtained from company documents. Time research was done in july 2014. In general, the results of the research showed that the installation of hydrants in PT PJB UBJ O&M PLTU Paiton was in complied with the decision of the Minister of Public Works No. 02/KPTS/1985 which includes the sources of water supply for hydrant can be used at least for 30 minutes of usage, pumping water to hydrant system also had a full consisting of jockey pump, main pump and diesel as well as maintenance of hydrants was done at regular intervals of 1 months. But there were still some of the incomplete hydrants, rusted hydrant boxes and any hydrant installation obstructed by unit tools. Based on the research results, the company recommended complete the contents of the incomplete hydrant box, repaint the rusted hydrant boxes, and move the hydrant was unobstructed by plants and guard railin to place where easily accessible and not obstructed by unit tools
