Abstract
Background: Probiotics are defined as live microorganism, which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host. Some positive effects of probiotics among others as immunomodulatory and immunostimulatory. The beneficial effect of probiotics because of probiotic bacteria has many and wide influence on the host, among others, may effect intestinal luminal environment, barrier function of the epithelium and mucosa and mucosal immune system. Purpose: This article will discuss about the role of probiotic in innate immune cells. Reviews: Probiotics have many and wide beneficial effect on the host, either directly or indirectly, including improved barrier function (defense) mucosa, modulate mucosal immune system, producing the antimicrobes, improves digestion and absorption of food as well as alter the intestinal microflora both kind and number. The efficacy of probiotic effect depend on the mechanism by which they exert their activity, including the ability to strong adherence and colonization of the human gut, which in turn improves the host immune system . Conclusion: Probiotic bacteria have a very big role in inducing innate immune cells that can stimulate and modulate the mucosal immune system with decreased production of pro-inflammatory cytokines through the NFκB pathways, increasing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10), increases IgA defense and affect maturation of DC.
