Abstract

Introduction : Family support is one of the vital important in implementing Community Home Based Care (CHBC). Some of family member don’t give their family support to the mother HIV positive due to their fear of HIV transmission. Based on Friedman, family support is influenced by knowledge, age, gender, socio-economical, and kinship with the patient factors. The role of family as support system in giving care and aid for the family member that suffer from HIV/AIDS. The purpose of this study is to identify the correlation between family support and the knowledge, age, gender, socio-economical status, and the kinship with patient. Method : the design of this study is correlation descriptive with cross sectional approach. The population are 20 of family member of mother with HIV positive. The sample is 17 of family member of mother with HIV positive chosen with total sampling, with 3 of family member were dropped out. The independents variables of this study are knowledge, age, gender, socio-economical status, kinship with patient. And the dependent variable is family support. Result : the result showed the correlation between family support and knowledge (p=0,001 r=0,717), age (p=0,036 r=0,510), gender (p=0,485 r=0,182), socio-economical status (p=0,010 r=0,604), kinship with the patient (p=0,109 r=0,402). The conclusion is family support is important for people live with HIV/AIDS to enhance their quality of life. Further research is needed to research other factors in implementing Community Home Based Care for HIV patient.
