Abstract

Hirschsprung’s disease may lead into gastrointestinal obstruction if not treated properly. Initial surgery or colostomy intended to decompressed large bowel temporarily, and it will prevent enterocolitis. Stooling patterns can be measured as the parameter of Hirschsprung’s disease patients condition after definitive surgery had been performed. We performed an analytic observational study to know the correlation between the age of initial surgery with the stooling patterns of Hirschsprung’s disease patient. The study was conducted in Ulin Hospital in Banjarmasin, South Borneo in November 2015-December 2015 with the total sample of 31 patients. The age of initial surgery were divided into before 30 days and after 30 days, while the stooling patterns were divided into satisfied and not satisfied. There was no significant correlation between the age of initial surgery with the stooling patterns of Hirschsprung’s disease patients. Most patients underwent initial surgery at the age after 30 days which is 18/31 (58,1%). Most patients have satisfied stooling patterns which is 23/31 (74,2%) after surgery.
