Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of shallot extractions against the degeneration and the necrosis levels of kidneys on the hyperglicemic rats. About 20 male white rats with average age ± 3 months were inducted intraperitoneally by alloxan 120 mg/ kg bw. Hyperglycemic rats were divided into five groups : K- was treated by CMC Na 0,5% orally; K+ was treated by metformin 45 mg / kg bw orally; P1 was treated by shallot extract 250 mg / kg bw orally; P2 was treated by shallot extract 500 mg / kg bw orally; P3 was treated by shallot extract 750 mg / kg bw orally. After 14th days of treatment, kidney samples were obtained by euthanized and necropsied. The histopathological overview of kidneys was conducted to see the degeneration and necrosis levels of tubular cells. The results showed that shallot extractions could decreased the degeneration and the necrosis level of kidneys tubular cells.
