Abstract

Preeclampsia is major cause of mother and child’s morbidity and mortality. Most of deaths caused by preeclampsia could be prevented if it was known from early stage and got effective treatments (WHO, 2014). The form of prevention can be an early detection and effective treatments from midwives. The purpose of this study was to identify knowledge and attitude of Private Practice Midwives (BPM) in East Surabaya. The method of this study was a descriptive study. Data was collected by interview with questionnaire as the instrument. Samples were 40 midwives who work at Private Practice Midwives which taken by quota sampling technique. Thereafter, data was analyzed descriptively and presented in frequency distribution table. Result of the study showed that most of respondents were 20 -29 years old (65%), D III Midwifery graduate (72,5) and have been worked as midwife for 1 - 9 years (42,5%). Respondents had insufficient knowledge of early detection of preeclampsia (10%) and preeclampsia treatments (32,5%), and had positive attitude toward early detection of preeclampsia (52,5%) and preeclampsia treatments (55%). Most of respondents answered wrongly about aim and examinations of early detection preeclampsia. Most of respondents answered wrongly about maintenance dosage, alternative administration, indicator and span of toxication in administration of MgSO4. Most of respondents had positive attitude toward early detection and treatments of preeclampsia.
