Abstract

BACKGROUND. Open fracture is a bone continuity disruption that is classified by its type and tissue damage. Open fracture grade III has injuries diameter of more than 1 cm and is followed by tissue damage which including skin structure, muscle and neurovascular. Management principle of open fracture therapy is purposed to reduce infections, stabilization of bones and soft tissue injuries. OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this research is to analyze the use of antibiotics in prophylactic, empiric and definitive antibiotics, that received by patient with lower extremity open fracture grade III and analyze the relationship between antibiotic therapy which related to the type, route, and frequency of dose. METHOD AND SUBJECT. It was in observasional study using a retrospective method with time limited sampling in patients with lower extremity open fracture grade III from January 1th 2015 to May 31th 2016. RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS. There were 50 patients with open fracture grade III and 54% of them received single prophylactic antibiotic ceftriaxone and 10% received combination prophylactic antibiotic ceftriaxone and gentamicyn. While, ceftriaxon as single empiric antibiotic has received by 58% patients and ceftriaxon and gentamycin as combination empiric antibiotics has received by 32% patients. The duration administration of antibiotic commonly 4 days. The conclusions of this study that the use of antibiotics in patient with open fracture grade III are ceftriaxon in single oe combination with gentamicyn.
